Named one of the most influential wine
personalities of the last 20 years by Robert M. Parker, Jr.,
Leonardo LoCascio is America's foremost authority on Italian wines. As
president and CEO of Winebow, Inc., America's leading importer of
premium Italian wines and a major importer and distributor of wines and
spirits from around the world, Mr. LoCascio's masterful knowledge
of the wines of Italy is unsurpassed.
Mr. LoCascio makes frequent trips to Italy
throughout the year, scouring the countryside for undiscovered
treasures. His meticulous selection process is geared to finding wines
that combine high quality and good value. The result is dozens of
wines turned down for every one selected. The process tends to favor
small to mid-sized wineries, often independent and family-owned.
Today, Winebow's Leonardo LoCascio Selections, with over 60 prized
Italian producers, is widely considered the most impressive Italian
portfolio of any importer in the U.S. Indeed, the Leonardo LoCascio
Selections logo on a label has become the de facto seal of approval for
Italian wine enthusiasts.
We
invite you take the opportunity to reserve some of our favorites from
the LoCascio Selections. Our knowledgeable staff sampled these three
wines and found them to be of exceptional quality and value. Enjoy!

San Polo Brunello di Montalcino 2004 750ML
sku: 13066
San Polo Brunello, made from 100% Sangiovese Grosso, is produced from
estate vines in the Montalcino appellation which follow the strict, low
yields mandated by the local Consorzio. Blessed with vines that enjoy a
southeastern exposure in a naturally occurring amphitheater, San Polo
is able to employ organic and biodynamic methods of viticulture to keep
these wines pure. This is a wine that truly reflects its pedigree and
meticulous treatment in both the vineyard and cellar.
Press: Wine
Spectator: Shows blackberries and minerals on the nose. Full-bodied,
with silky and refined tannins and a solid core of fruit. A little
chewy, but it's all there; it's just tight and reserved. Best after
2011. 3,100 cases made. -JS
Robert Parker: The estate's 2004 Brunello di Montalcino possesses
gorgeous density and richness in its dark fruit, sweet toasted oak,
minerals, licorice and spices. This is an especially generous, Brunello
that shows terrific energy and balance in a soft, approachable style.
Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019.
Importer Leonardo LoCascio and producer Marilisa Allegrini
purchased San Polo in 2007. Many of the vineyards were originally
planted by consulting oenologist Luca D'Attoma although today it is
Carlo Ferrini who oversees work in the vineyards and cellar. Clearly
these releases show a property in transition, as LoCascio and Allegrini
essentially found these wines already made (but not assembled) when
they purchased the property. LoCascio has a brilliant palate, and it
will be fascinating to see what he and his team come up with now that
they are in charge.
Tasting Notes:
Intense ruby red in color, with garnet hues, San Polo Brunello is
full-bodied and warm on the palate. It offers typical aromas of violets
and small red fruits, followed by subtle notes of coffee. The finish is
long, with round and refined tannins surrounding the juicy texture. It
is an excellent accompaniment to roasted meats, wild fowl, grilled
filet mignon and steaks.more

Poggio al Tesoro is a young property in Maremma that continues to make
better wines with each passing vintage. This year, a value-priced red,
Mediterra, has been added to the line-up. Made from 40%

aged for 8 months in barriques. Mediterra perfectly reflects the
terroir of Bolgheri and expresses a fantastic balance between the
freshness of its fragrances and its warm and powerful structure. Its
peppered notes, typical of the Syrah, are intermingled with aromas of
fruits of the Mediterranean machia.
Press: Wine
Spectator: Displays aromas of chocolate and berry, with hints of cedar.
Full, soft and round, with plenty of juicy fruit. Long and beautiful,
with a lovely finish. Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best after
2010. 3,300 cases made. -JS
Robert Parker:The 2006 Mediterra is 40% Syrah, 30% Merlot and 30%
Cabernet Sauvignon made from the estate's youngest vineyards. The wine
possesses awesome clarity in its dark fruit, flowers, graphite and
grilled herbs, with a long, powerful finish. This delicious Tuscan wine
offers incredible value. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016.
Tasting Notes: Intense
ruby red tinged with violet, Mediterra has a fruity and warm bouquet
