The
Bichot family has been established in Burgundy since circa 1350, taking
the deer as its symbol. In the 19th century Bernard Bichot founded the
family wine brokerage and this heritage has been passed down the
generations ever since. Since 1996, Alberic Bichot has represented the
6th generation to run the House.
In 2004 the Bichot House was awarded Red Winemaker of the Year by the International Wine Challenge.
In 2008 Wine & Spirits Magazine awarded Bichot the distinction of being one of the "Top 100 wineries of the world."
Region:
Located far from the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, Burgundy
has a continental climate with cold winters. However, winegrowers have
discovered how to take advantage of the warmest lands, even in Chablis,
its northernmost area. In the southern part of the region, on a narrow,
150-km-long strip of land with the best eastern and southern exposure,
the heartiest and adaptable varieties have been cultivated since the
Middle Ages.
Despite their northern climate, the Burgundian
hills are protected from the dry, cold northerly winds, known as the
Bise, and Pinot Noir and Chardonnay thrive on the warm summer and
autumn sun to produce world-famous results. based on the methods used
in the Cte Chalonnaise, all vineyards in Burgundy are now located on
hillsides in order to obtain the best sun exposure.
