Greetings From CT Wine Authority
This
week's two featured wines, a Chianti from Tuscany and a Pinot Grigio
from Tre Venezie, are brilliant examples of Italy's classic Old World
style. We are excited to offer our customers these delicious wines at
the discounted price of $9.99 per bottle. If your schedule allows,
please join us on Saturday afternoon to sample these wines.
Chianti is a Tuscan wine that most wine drinkers are familiar
with. The predominant grape in a classic Chianti is Sangiovese,
although sometimes blended with small portions of other popular Italian
varietals
including Canaiolo, Trebbiano and Malvasia. Chianti's are often
described as dry reds, emitting dried cherry and spice notes,
containing nice acidity that is balanced with firm tannins. For our
featured wine this week, Coltibuono Cetamura Chianti, the winemaker
selected the best Sangiovese & Canaiolo grapes from various
sub-zones of Chianti.
This week's white wine selection is Riff Pinot Grigio from "Tre
Venezie," a world renowned region for quality white wines. Riff
translates in German to reef, which relates to the ancient sea that
used to cover the current location of the Alois Lageder vineyards. The
vineyards are located on the slopes of the Alpine Dolomite foothills,
where soils are rich with limestone, thought to come from the previous
existence of the ancient sea. This beautiful wine shows the classic
dry style of Italy with a touch of minerality.
Salute!

Coltibuono
Cetamura 2006 750ML

Cetamura is the name of an Etruscan settlement on
the Badia a
Coltibuono property. The winemaker tells us that this wine was
conceived with the intention of creating a young, pleasant wine,
perfect for every day. He and his staff selected the best grapes from
the various sub-zones of Chianti to express the typical freshness and
accessibility of these varieties.
Tasting notes: Intense
bright ruby red, cherry and blackberry nose with cinnamon and clove
nuances. Full and well-balanced, soft but tasty, with good structure.

Riff
Pinot Grigio 2008 750ML
sku: 13373
This top-value Pinot Grigio reflects the
expertise of acclaimed
winegrower Alois Lageder, who selects the wines from vineyard sources
in Italy's northeastern "Tre Venezie"; consisting of Trentino-Alto
Adige, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, and the Veneto. A fifth generation winery
owner and winemaker in the Alto Adige, Lageder's long-standing
credibility with winegrowers gives him access to some of the region's
best grapes.
The limestone fossil seen on the Riff label is
emblematic of the soil in the grape growing regions where this wine is
made. The alluvial dolomite soil has a direct and highly prized
influence on the character and style of the wines from the region.
Tasting
notes: An appley white with some mineral and dried fruit character.
Medium body, light finish. Good value, drink now.more
