In 1965, Renato Ratti bought his first vineyard in the Marcenasco zone of Piedmont for the production of Barolo. In 1969, his nephew Massimo Martinelli joined the company and together they perfected the vinification, maturation and refinement for their Marcenasco Barolo wines. In the 1970's the company acquired additional Marcenasco vineyards as well as Conca and Rocche crus. After Renato's death, his son Pietro took charge of the company and continued on with the Ratti legacy that produces some of the highest rated premium Italian wines today.

The Renato Ratti Barolo Marcenasco 2005 was one of our top selling premium Italian wines. Regretfully, we are now out of stock on this item, but there is good news! We recently received a very limited quantity of the Renato Ratti Barolo Rocche 2005. There were only 900 cases made of this vintage and it also received 96 points from Wine Spectator. Wine Spectator: Shows ripe strawberry and black cherry aromas, with hints of flowers. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and lots of fruit, vanilla and white pepper character. Long and rich. Best after 2012. 900 cases made. -JS

Robert Parker: The 2005 Barolo Rocche shows lovely richness and depth in its dark fruit, flowers, herbs and French oak. The Rocche comes together beautifully in the glass, as the tannins soften a touch and the wine gains clarity. High-toned, floral aromatics accompany the fruit through to the long finish. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025.

The vineyard of Rocche dell'Annunziata is historically considered the most important of the "Marcenasco" sub zone. more
