Greetings
From CT Wine Authority
This week we are pleased to feature two new French wines that
pair perfectly with fresh springtime cuisine. Both wines are from
well-known French regions; the red is from Cotes du Rhone and the white
is from Graves, Bordeaux. France, arguably the most renowned
wine-growing region of the world, is not only the standard by which
other wines are often judged, it has shaped and guided the industry for
centuries.
Unlike the rest of Bordeaux, in Graves most chateaus
produce both red and white wines. The blend of Sauvignon Blanc and
Semillon is the traditional combination from the region. The former
lends excellent acidity and crispness while the latter adds richness,
depth, and body. The Rhone is located in southern France and is
influenced more by a sunny, Mediterranean climate than the rest of the
country. The region is named for the Rhone river which bisects it into
north and south. Cotes du Rhone is in the south and 77% of all wines
from the Rhone are from this appellation. Expect more fruity, spicy
wines with some peppery notes on the finish and definitely a lot of
character. Perfect for grilled meats!
As always, please stop by
either of our locations this Saturday for a taste of this week's
featured wines.
