This
week we are honored to welcome winemaker Donald Keys of 3000 B.C.
Winery of Stellenbosch, South Africa. He will be pouring two great wines
from his portfolio this Saturday. Please stop in for a taste and to
learn about South African winemaking, from the winemaker himself!
The
early history of South African wine can be traced to the founding of
a supply station at the Cape of Good Hope by the Dutch East India
Company. Jan van Riebeeck was given the task of managing the station and
planting vineyards to produce wine and grapes; that could be used to
ward off scurvy for sailors continuing on their voyages along the spice
route.
Today, South African winemakers focus on making quality wines that can
compete in the world market. Relatively new wines for us, 3000 B.C.
Chenin Blanc & 3000 B.C. Luscious Scarlett, show tremendous quality
and great value for the price.
There is evidence that vines were domesticated in
about 3000 B.C. in the Near East, Sumer and Egypt. And of course, many
of mankind's great leaps forward in terms of civilization and cuisine
occurred at the same time as important discoveries in winemaking.
Continuing this tradition, 3000 B.C. brings you a fine, exceptionally
civilized wine that is modern, yet honors the ancient art that created
it. A New World of wines for New World Individuals.
