The Fattoria del Cerro estate is located in Montepulciano, a renaissance village about 30 miles south of Siena, in Tuscany. With a state of the art cellar and winery, the 1410 acre estate has 385 acres of vineyards, and is marked by the 15th century Villa Grazianella. Since 1978 Fattoria del Cerro has produced the most important wine of the area. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, 80% aged 2 years in Slavonian oak casks, 20% in 60 gallon French oak barrels. This rich well balanced wine with a smooth finish is made from 80% Prugnolo Gentile (a clone of Sangiovese) and 20% blend of Canailo Nero and Mammolo.
Wine maker notes
The most classic and the most famous among the wines byFattoria del Cerro. It has a vivid ruby red colour and good concentration. Intense fragrant aroma with evident fruity notes among which wild black cherry, violet and vanilla. Full balanced flavour with noticeable but discreet tannic component. Serve in medium size wine glasses at 16- 18°C. It can be served with appetizers first courses with meat and mushroom sauces, grilled meats and roast white meats and medium aged cheese.
Fattoria del Cerro, with its 93 hectares of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano vineyards recorded in the register, is the largest private estate producing Vino Nobile. The spaciousness and the different exposition of the vineyards allow selecting the best grapes to make high quality wines. Prugnolo Gentile, the grape behind Nobile di Montepulciano, is the clone of Sangiovese, typical of this area, and which, over the course of the centuries, has adapted itself to local growing conditions. Vino Nobile is produced in three different versions: the regular wine Vino Nobile di Montepulciano D.O.C.G., the Riserva Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva D.O.C.G., and the single vineyard selection Vino Nobile di Montepulciano ”Antica Chiusina” D.O.C.G..
