Deceivingly pale at first glance, this light straw-colored wine
has tremendous concentration, structure and verve – with steely precision and
a superb lemony persistence. Intriguing aromas of white flower petal, lime zest
and graphite excite the senses even before the first sip. Incredibly balanced, this
Chardonnay delivers flavors of lemon oil, white peach, pear and roasted hazelnut that weave together on the palate, creating a seductive texture and mouth- coating finish. The acid backbone and phenolic structure will allow this wine to age beautifully in bottle for many years to come.
We anchor this exceptional regional blend with fruit from some of our favorite
Russian River Valley vineyard sites. We begin with the naturally balanced fruit of
Westside Farms adjacent to the Russian River. Nearby Rochioli-Allen offers great
concentration and structure. On the east side of the valley, Starr Creek is slightly
warmer, producing fruit with rich, concentrated flavors. And just above Forestville, Floodgate Vineyard gives great acidity and intensity, filling out the mid-palate.
|Wine maker notes
|The Chardonnay was whole cluster pressed using a gentle pressing program to
extract only the most desirable solids. The juice was settled for 24 hours, racked
off the heavy lees, and then transferred to 40% new Francois Frères, Seguin
Moreau and Rousseau barrels, with just the right amount of light, fluffy, creamy
lees for a healthy fermentation. After a 7-month aging period, each wine was
carefully evaluated and the most elegantly structured wines were selected for this
|With a lively acidity and supple viscosity, this wine will pair exceptionally well with seafood and poultry dishes, as well as a fine aged Gouda.
