Ruby red in color with intoxicating aromas of driedblack cherry, cassis, truffles, chocolate fudge and tar. This wine is silky, luscious and complex, with a lingering finish.
Robert Parker: The 2009 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a richly-layered wine with opulent tones of plum cake, cinnamon snap, jammy fruit and dark raisin. There’s a tight and focused nature to this wine that underlines its fine quality and aging potential. The extraction is there, and so are the tannins and acidic components. Spicy tobacco and leather last long in the mouth. The wine is aged 36 months in large oak casks. Drink 2015-2025.
Wine Spectator: Subdued notes of dried black cherry, prune, dark chocolate and grilled herb are underscored by smoky sous-bois details in this tightly knit, balanced red. The sinewy tannins lend some muscle. Should benefit from short-term cellaring. Best from 2017 through 2027. 1,250 cases imported.
The Azienda Zenato has always forged strong links with local history and culture, both that of centuries past and that still forming today, and links just as deep with the land that gives them the wines they produce. Equally important to us is a passionate dedication to vigorous research and innovation, to relentless quality improvement. All of this has made Azienda Zenato an ambassador for quality, for dedication, for a frank and simple way of life.
|Wine maker notes
|Amarone, the small jewel in our product line, is rightly considered the king of Verona's wines, produced from the best grapes of the Valpolicella Classic area, carefully selected and dried in trays until January. Showing deep ruby red, it releases intense aromas laden with rich spice and dried fruit; in the mouth it is a wine of superb richness and majestic flavors.
|Grape Varieties 80% corvina, 10% rondinella, 5% sangiovese, 5% molinara.
After being picked and carefully graded, the grape clusters are placed in shallow wood trays for about 5 months, leaving space for air circulation around the bunches. After fermentation on the skins, the wine is divided into 300-liter French oak barrels and Slavonian oak cases for maturation of about two and a half years, followed by a year’s aging in bottle before release.
|Pairs perfectly with hearty game stews, roasted meats and mature cheeses.
