A wonderfully complex and layered Chardonnay with subtle aromas of citrus blossom, white chocolate, toasted almond and apricot. This wine has a silky smooth texture and full-bodied flavor, balanced with crisp acidity and refined tannins. Notes of pear and white peach add to the rounded fruit flavors which to follow through to a long finish.

Wine maker notes

Our 2009 Chardonnay comes from two Napa Valley growing regions. We continue to work with our beautiful vineyard in Carneros which is located just north and with a view of the San Pablo Bay. As the heat rises inland, the fog rolls in over the vineyard protecting the fruit and allowing it to ripen slowly with full flavor development. In 2009 we were delighted to also get additional fruit from a vineyard located in the Coombsville Tulokay region. This area is located just east of the city of Napa and is unique for its cool climate and volcanic soils. The vineyard was planted over 40 years ago in the old head trained style and has been farmed by the same grower for its entire life. The old heritage clones planted on this site have structure and complex flavors that work well with the Dijon clones planted in our Carneros Vineyard. The 2009 Chardonnay was 100% barrel fermented in French Oak. It was stirred weekly and the wine went through partial malolactic fermentation in the barrel.

Each of the varietals we produce is handcrafted and carefully blended from small vineyard lots. Each lot is fermented and aged separately in our cellar until just prior to bottling when we carefully blend these lots together to achieve wines of balance with layers of complex flavors.
