Raspberry and blackberry jam characterize the Gamla Merlot, along with nuances of orange peel, chocolate, oak and vanilla. The attractive aroma and flavor couple with a medium body and tasty finish to complete this elegant wine. One can enjoy Gamla Merlot immediately or, if stored well, up to about six years following the harvest. We like to drink Gamla Merlot with a variety of foods, from moussaka to pasta putanesca to grilled lamb chops.

Gamla Merlot is made from fruit grown in the central and northern Golan Heights, the area that consistently produces our finest Merlot fruit. A small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon adds to the wine`s complexity. Gamla Merlot aged for about nine months in small French oak barrels.

The Galilee (or Galil) is the most northern, and generally considered the best, appellation in Israel. The highest quality area within the appellation is the Golan Heights (or simply the Golan), the coldest region in Israel. The vineyards on this volcanic plateau rise from 400 meters (1,300 feet) above sea level to 1,200 meters (3,900 feet) and receive snowfall in the winter. The Golan Heights Winery is located in the town of Katzrin, in the central Golan.
