Coriole Vineyards was founded by the Lloyd Family in 1967 and is managed by Mark and Paul Lloyd. The oldesst vineyards were planted in 1919, in the Seaview subregion of McLaren Vale in South Australia. The estate vineyards are planted to Shiraz (65%), Sangiovese (10%), Chenin Blanc (5%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5%). Other varieties are Fiano, Grenache, Barbera, Montepulciano, Merlot and Semillon on shallow, red-brown soils over hard capped limestone. Coriole manages most vineyards where fruit is sourced. Coriole also has vineyards in the subregions of Blewitt Springs and Willunga. The winemaking team is led by senior winemaker Alex Sherrah and Mark Lloyd. The Lloyds are working towards organic certification.
Wine maker notes
The Redstone range is produced from Coriole’s own estate vineyards and other selected sites in the McLaren Vale Region. The name comes from the distinctively coloured ironstone so common in the vineyards and buildings at Coriole.

Technical notes
The grapes were macerated with daily punch downs and fermented for 10 days with pump overs. The wine was aged in one and two year old French (80%) and American oak barrels and was minimally filtered before bottling.

Producer
Coriole is situated in the undulating hills of the densely planted McLaren Vale region just within sight of the sea and less than an hour from Adelaide. The original farmhouses were built in 1860 and are now the epicentre of the garden and cellar door at the winery. The original vineyards were planted immediately after the first world war. Shiraz is the great tradition of McLaren Vale going back over 150 years, and is the major variety planted on the estate. The first wine released was the 1970 Claret (Shiraz). Coriole has been an Australian pioneer of Sangiovese and Italian varieties since 1985. Coriole is managed by two family members, Mark and Paul Lloyd.
