Wine Advocate 93 points - The 2011 Family Red Blend has a succinct bouquet with blackberry, raspberry leaf, bay leaf, cloves and white pepper that shows fine detail. Twelve months on and that Provencal allure is intact. The palate is crisp with chalky tannins, slightly darker and earthier fruit than the nose suggests, with a compact but crisp finish. Excellent.  (Oct 2014)

Wine Advocate 93 points - The 2011 Family Red Blend has a deep garnet color. The nose is very vibrant with gorgeous boysenberry, cranberry and cassis fruit interlaced with Provencal herbs and hints of white fennel that emerge with 5-10 minutes aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip on the entry. There is an abiding sense of symmetry and focus within the 2011, perhaps a little more linearity and structure compared to recent vintages. It fantails with blackberry, white pepper, cloves, fennel and a good dollop of garrigue. Excellent. Drink now-2018. (Oct 2013)

AA Badenhorst Family Wines are grown, made and matured on Kalmoesfontein farm in the Swartland appellation of South Africa. The 28ha of old bushvines grow in the Siebritskloof part of the Paardeberg mountain. The property is owned by the dynamic and good looking cousins Hein and Adi Badenhorst. They are originally from Constantia. Their grandfather was the farm manager of Groot Constantia for 46 years. Their fathers were born there and farmed together in Constantia, during the days when people still ate fresh vegetables and Hanepoot grapes, drank Cinsault and there were a lot less traffic lights and hippies still had a presence. Together these two have restored a neglected cellar on the farm that was last used in the 1930’s to make natural wines in the traditional manner.
